Iowa operator training

Lakeside Engineers is providing 14 operator trainings for Iowa DOT and consultants between the months of August 2014, and July 2015.

General Tasks

Participants are trained to:

  • Effectively navigate a DOT control room
  • Provide 24-hour services
  • Understand and manage control room functions
  • Communicate responsibly with the public and DOT personnel
  • Manage multiple simultaneous large-scale traffic incident events
  • Post and manage emergency events and notifications for many scenarios, including: amber alerts, highway HazMat spills, earthquakes, and more.

Zoo Interchange Milwaukee County

Project Description

The Zoo Freeway is a major north‐south facility in western Milwaukee County, running 13.5 miles from the Hale Interchange in Greenfield to the North Interchange in northwest Milwaukee. At the Hale Interchange, the I 894/US 45/Zoo Freeway meets the I 43/Rock Freeway and the I 894/I 43/Airport Freeway, while at the North Interchange, the US 41/US 45/Zoo Freeway intersects the STH 145/Fond du Lac Freeway. Lakeside Engineers was able to provide support staff for this project by aiding the development of a safe and efficient, modern design that also includes improvements to critical local roadways:

  • Six service interchanges: North Avenue, Watertown Plank Road, Bluemound Road, 84th Street, WIS 100, Greenfield Avenue
  • Major roadways: WIS 100, Watertown Plank Road, Glenview Avenue
  • Reduces the projected construction cost by $600 million from previous design alternatives
  • Provides efficient movement for existing and future traffic at the Watertown Plank Road interchange
  • Improves safety and efficiency on adjacent roadways including Highway 100, Bluemound Road, Watertown Plank Road and Glenview Avenue/84th Street

 

WIS 441 Tri-County Winnebago County

Traffic Management Engineer

Project Description

This project includes staffing a Traffic Management Engineer for WIS 441 Tri-County Project. The Tri-County Project spans from 2014 to 2018 and reconstructs the system interchange of US 41 with US 10/WIS 441, four service interchanges, and six miles of mainline pavement. The Traffic Management Engineer is responsible for:

  • Responding to incidents within the work zone and coordinating WisDOT and contractor resources to ensure timely scene clean up
  • Facilitating monthly first responder meetings
  • Developing and updating emergency access maps
  • Reviewing traffic control plans, detour plans, and Transportation Management Plans (TMPs)
  • Inspecting site traffic control
  • Coordinating closure between various projects and contractors
  • Informing stakeholders of expected closures weekly
  • Coordinating with Public Involvement to ensure timely and accurate information is provided to the public
  • Attending weekly project meetings
  • Troubleshooting field issues that arise
  • Providing recommendations to WisDOT in regards to traffic staging and field concerns

Project Description

WIS 59 is an important means of connectivity in Waukesha county. The project entailed a seven mile span of road that was in need of repair. During construction, crews had to ensure that WIS 59 would remain open at all times as well as maintain driveway and side road access to ease property owners. Lakeside Engineers took the lead role in addition to providing support staff on this project and was able to improve safety while also revitalizing the drive for commuters by preforming the following tasks:

  • Mill and Overlay
  • HMA Pavement
  • Curb and Gutter
  • Pavement Marking
  • Permanent Signing

US 41 Brown County

Project Description

US 41 is a widely utilized highway that runs throughout Brown County. Traffic flow in the area required renovations to allow present day demands of US 41 to be met. Due to the projects proximity to Lambeau Field, special accommodations for game day needed to be provided. Lakeside Engineers was able to provide support staff in the reconstruction of this mainline which includes the following responsibilities:

  • Expanding Traffic Lanes from 4 to 6-10 Lanes
  • Reconstruction and Improvements to Multiple Interchanges
  • Roundabouts

Project Description

USH 41 is a major highway that brings connectivity to DePere and Suamico in Brown County. Throughout this 3.5 mile span of roadway, there were many structures in need of repair. Lakeside Engineers was able to provide support staff for this project and was able to improve safety for 15 bridges and roadways that meet with USH 41 by preforming the following tasks:

  • Storm Water Detention Ponds
  • Erosion Control
  • Storm Sewer
  • Culverts
  • Breaker Run
  • Base Aggregate Dense
  • HMA Pavement
  • Concrete Pavement
  • Concrete Curb and Gutter

Another 20 structures were in need of some minor work to improve safety via lighting, ITS, pavement marking and landscaping.

Train Shed Milwaukee County

Project Description

The Milwaukee Intermodal Station serves as the “gateway” to downtown Milwaukee and is a crucial means of transportation for many locals. The project involves the removal of the existing train passenger concourse, located immediately south of the station, and construction of a new structure. The new facility will meet requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Lakeside Engineers will be providing support staff for this passenger train concourse construction by improving safety and revitalizing the downtown area. Major renovations include:

  • A partial mezzanine, spanning five tracks and three boarding platforms
  • Stairways
  • Escalators
  • Ventilation systems
  • Lighting and signage
  • Foundation to be a combination of existing and new pile footings
  • An existing passenger tunnel to be rehabilitated
  • Roof will be a custom fabricated 3-D tubular truss, with skylight

Mitchell Interchange Milwaukee County

Project Description

The Mitchell Interchange is a north-south corridor spanning throughout Milwaukee County. This corridor is comprised of 6 primary traffic lanes, ramp and auxiliary lanes, the Airport Spur (WIS 119), as well as 17 service interchanges. Lakeside Engineers was able to provide support staff for this project through safety improvements while reducing congestion and modernized the important 35-mile transportation artery, including:

  • Constructed an additional lane in each direction, for a total of eight lanes
  • Replaced deteriorating pavement and structures with new designs
  • Moved ramp exits to the right side of the freeway
  • Provided aesthetic treatments for those who live adjacent to the freeway

Project Description

IH 43/94 extents throughout Milwaukee and is a means of joining the downtown area with the General Mitchell International Airport. It is a crucial stretch of highway that has several bridges in need of repair. The purpose of this project was to improve operations on overpassing bridges, interchanges, and a pedestrian structure that span throughout this project. Lakeside Engineers is providing support staff for this project to improve safety while also revitalizing the area by preforming the following tasks:

  • Bridge rehabilitation at Mitchell Street, Lincoln Avenue, Maple Street, Warnimont Pedestrian Bridge, and Southbound I-43 Entrance Ramp Bridge over Becher Street
  • Roadway paving at the Southbound Becher St/Lapham Blvd entrance and exit Ramps
  • Roadway paving at the 9thSt/Walker St Northbound entrance and exit ramps
  • Pavement rehabilitation within the Holt Avenue Park & Ride Lot
  • Bridge painting of the Valley Bridge beginning near National Avenue
  • Bridge Painting under 6thStreet at the Washington Street intersection
  • Under-deck bridge repair at Valley Bridge and Oklahoma Overpass

Project Description

IH 43/94 extents throughout Milwaukee and is served as an important link between the Mitchell Interchange and Marquette Interchange. It is a crucial 4 mile stretch of highway in which the mainline was in need of repair. The project was time sensitive with strict deadlines and required an accelerated schedule and timely decision making to avoid delays. Lakeside Engineers was able to perform as both lead and support staff for this project to improve safety while also revitalizing the area by preforming the following tasks:

  • HMA mill and overlay
  • Concrete paving
  • Base patch
  • Barrier wall
  • Traffic Management Plan (TMP) implementation
