Project Engineer

Project Engineers perform civil engineering tasks to help design and build transportation infrastructure through their work in transportation design, traffic engineering, transportation systems engineering, and construction engineering. Under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer, Project Engineers perform the following tasks. 


Core Responsibilities:

  • Design or prepare plans for new transportation systems or parts of systems, such as highways, streets, bridges, drainage structures, or roadway lighting; 
  • Estimate transportation project costs;
  • Prepare technical or statistical reports on traffic-operation matters, such as accidents, safety measures, or pedestrian volume or practices;
  • Investigate traffic problems and recommend methods to improve traffic flow or safety;
  • Data collection, technology, and reporting, GIS data collection and computer-aided design (CAD) drafting; 
  • Perform quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the design reports, roadway plans, special provisions, and project documentation; 
  • Ensure necessary safety protocols are included in the plans, and propose and implement additional safety devices when necessary due to higher than normal occurrences of incidents; 
  • Identify and resolve technical and logistical challenges that arise during projects. 


Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering field. Must have demonstrated knowledge of transportation engineering and construction engineering.
